Janet shares fond memories of her years foster parenting, a house full of children, and the joy of always helping people.

Janet: In the period that I grew up here. You could go anywhere, I mean, there was nowhere you couldn't go, and if you had a problem, you couldn't stop and people wouldn't help you. Okay, so it's like you had a friend in every town. So I had no fear, which was probably crazy, but I didn't. I'd have my trailer and all these kids and, you know, and we just kept going, and we'd help people along the road. If they had flat tires or whatever, we give them rides to go get gas, and they'd always say, “Wow!”  And I said, “Well, just think of it as an adventure,” we're just out here having fun, you know? And the kids thought it was really cool. We had the kids I'm more into because we foster-parented for 20 years. I never got over the fact that when we were there, we really advocated for our kids. And these kids would come from all over. They'd want to place them out of their communities and stuff.

And I went to the beauty shop one day, and some girl’s in there, and she goes, “You're Mrs. Dunn. huh?” And I looked at Becky, my beautician and I said, “Yeah.” And she goes, “I almost got to come to your house last night.”  Oh. And I said, “Sweetheart, you're welcome anytime. Just come over and visit”  you know. And we sat there when we talked. I don't know what the neighbors thought, because there was always kids and people coming and going, you know. But there's, there's a naturalness, there's a there's a non-stress, fun attitude here,  when we were younger. And it's still here to a certain extent, in a lot of the small towns, but it's still not like it was. I've been married for 51 years, so yeah, that we were way back in the 70s and 80s when we had the kids. However, what my oldest son says is that the thing that's killing it all is there's nothing there for us to do. To stay, they have to leave.
